An entertainment room for many people is the center of their home. It’s a place for social interaction, relaxing over a movie with family and friends, or listen to music. While it can look very stylish, it can also be very functional.

1. “Thinking tidy”

It’s easy for an entertainment room to get messy. It’s a space used by many people who may or may not take care to leave it organized. Wires, chargers, DVD’s, records and so on can easily be added to the clutter if left out. Planning this is key. Work backwards, taking into account all appliances and gadgets that you will position here. Then think of their accessories, and build storage to suit. With a combination of open and closed spaces, you can create interest and hide unwanted items out of sight.

2. “Materials and finishes”

Things can get interesting here. While thinking about function and practicality, you can now bring colour and textures to make this area an interesting piece. This is done with clever use of timbers- light or dark and contrasting with colour, whether this is done with a matt, glossy or textured.

3. “Style and design”

With style and design, it is vital to consider the pre-existing conditions of your home and living space, by not mixing different period pieces, you will have a cohesive style. Natural light is another area of consideration. If you have a darker room, consider lighter timbers with whiter tones that offer a good contrast. On the other hand, if you have plenty of light, using darker timbers and tones can complement your room.
